ROY J MAIER, 2006 – 91 Points Wine Spectator!
Maier Family Meritage- Double Gold American Fine Wine Competition
Maier Family Cenote- Silver Medal Sonoma County Harvest Fair
2006 Roy J. Maier Cabernet - My favorite of the whole
lineup. This is tasty! A well done, voluptuous, sexy, but not over the
top Cab. Lots of baby fat here and a sweet silky mouthfeel. Blue and
black fruit, baking spices, creamy vanilla oak, and a long finish. Not
terribly complex, but a great mountain Cab, priced well at $50-60. 93
pts. To see the entire line up from the Acme Fine Wines press party click here.
We will be down in San Diego for the San Diego International Food and Wine Show. November 18-22th you can get your tickets at www.worldofwineevents.com

SAINT HELENA ROAD Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County Roy J. Maier 2006 Score: 91 | $58
"Minty bay leaf, herb and chocolate currant flavors are intense, full-bodied and deeply concentrated, tightly focused and framed by dry, minerally tannins. Best from 2010 through 2016. 600 cases made."-J. Laube, Wine Spectator
2006 Saint Helena Road Winery Roy J. Maier Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County
($58; includes 8% malbec and 4% merlot) Bright medium ruby.
Currant, flint, smoke, tobacco, fresh herbs and a whiff of olive on the
nose. Big, broad and rich, with ripe but classically dry flavors of cassis,
plum and chocolate; today the malbec is showing. Not yet complex but
there's very good material here. Finishes firmly tannic and persistent.
Perhaps in a dumb stage now. Mike Hirby, who has been the consulting
winemaker here since late 2005, told me that the fruit struggles to
ripen "and never overripens" at this vineyard between Pride and Fisher,
at an altitude of 1,800 feet. -Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar

2006 Maier Family Meritage
Our Meritage is a mind blowing blend of our mountain fruit, its dark, deep aromas of chocolate, Asian spice, black cherry, and coffee are mirrored on the full rich palate. The big, ripe tannins are chewy and rich, enveloping the mid-palate and giving the sense that this wine will age well for a long time!
